Survey above the Fourth Nile Cataract.

In response to an international appeal by the Sudan National Corporation for Antiquities and Museums for missions to undertake archaeological survey and excavations in the region threatened by the projected Merowe Dam SARS conducted a survey in 1999. Granted a concession for a 40km stretch along the left bank of the Nile and on the adjacent islands between Amri and Kirbekan the team concentrated its efforts in the vicinity of the village of et-Tereif. This report contains a detailed gazetteer of the sites located as well as discussions of the rock pictures and small finds by the main author, of the pottery by Pam Braddock and of the lithics by Donatella Usai.
